How does Nizoral dandruff shampoo work?
Nizoral dandruff shampoo contains the active ingredient ketoconazole, which is a type of medicine called an antifungal. It is used to treat infections with fungi and yeasts.
Ketoconazole is used to treat a number of different types of fungal and yeast infections. Ketoconazole shampoo can be bought from pharmacies to treat the scalp conditions dandruff and seborrhoeic dermatitis. These conditions can be caused by an overgrowth of the yeast Pityrosporum (Malassezia).
Like other shampoos, Nizoral dandruff shampoo also contains ingredients to clean your hair.
How to use:
Ketoconazole shampoo should be used to wash the hair twice a week for two to four weeks.
Massage the shampoo into the hair like normal shampoo, but leave it on for three to five minutes before rinsing.
Once the scalp has cleared up, these conditions can be prevented from coming back by using the shampoo once every one to two weeks.
Nizoral dandruff shampoo is for external use on the scalp only.
Take care to avoid getting the shampoo in the eyes. If it does enter the eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water.
If your scalp has not cleared up after four weeks of treatment you should consult your doctor or pharmacist for advice.
Nizoral dandruff shampoo should not be used by people with known sensitivity or allergy to any ingredient. Nizoral dandruff shampoo is not recommended for children under 12 years of age.
Ingredients are not absorbed into the bloodstream from the skin and can be safely used during breastfeeding.
